A Municher once told Tom that Munich was "Germany''s largest town". That spoke much more to the attitudes of Munichers more than the reality. The fact was,Munich was one of the largest cities in Germany, one that found tself on the world''s stage many times -- the 1972 Olympics, the world-reknowned Oktoberfestthe annual Munich Security Conference, hundreds of international conventions. The hometown football (socer) club Bayern M§оnchen was one of the world''s elite

Munich is M§оnchen, Bavaria.

AL STEWART THE AGE OF RHYTHM LYRICS
Today I feel like Dorothy Parker
Today I''ve got the critical eye
I paint my world just a little bit darker
Don''t even have to try

Everyone seems a little bit desperate
Oh so witty, but over the edge
I don''t know why they try to impress you
With one foot on the window ledge

That''s just the way they play it
That''s just the way they are
Think up a line and say it
I''ll see you all later down at the bar

Don''t try to understand it
It won''t get you very far
Even the Great Pretender
is really as naked a Hedy Lamarr

Today I feel like Dorothy Parker
Today I''m up here walking the floor
The light inside my head getting darker
Going to leave this town for sure

One block down and another block over
There''s a place that will make you a drink
The night is hot, I believe that I''ll go there
A password will get you in

Play a song by Hoagy Carmichael
Play that horn like Beiderbecke too
A glass or two of something you like''ll
Separate you from these blues

Life is a constant party
Swung to a shot of jazz
Even the broken-hearted
Can steal a feel of the razamatazz

This is the age of rhythm
These are the dancing years
Jump through the mirror with them
New York has no time for your tears

Today I feel like Dorothy Parker
Today I''ve got the critical eye
I paint my world just a little bit darker
Don''t even have to try

Hoagy Carmichael

Dorothy Parker (August 22 1893 ЁC June 7 1967) was an American writer and poet, best known for her caustic wit, wisecracks, and sharp eye for 20th century urban foibles.

Also known as Dot or Dottie, Parker was born Dorothy Rothschild in the West End district of Long Branch, New Jersey, where her parents had a summer home. She liked to say that her parents got her back to their Manhattan apartment shortly after Labor Day, so she can be called a true New Yorker. Her friends found her both a source of fun and of tragedy; she attempted suicide at least three times.

ResumЁ¦ЎЇ

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns arenЎЇt lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

Born in 1895, Dorothy Parker was Queen of New York literary society in the 1920''s and 30''s. She was a writer of poems, short stories, literary and theatrical criticism and Hollywood film scripts and had the legendary reputation in her own lifetime as the wittiest woman in America. Indeed she is one of the most often quoted personalities of her era.

Her poems and short stories examine every irony of the human condition. The exploration of relationships between people through what is said and what is not said but thought, is a major recurring theme in her work and is the aspect of her writing that was central to the choice of pieces for "COUPLES?".

Dorothy Parker was a short story writer, poet, critic, and screenwriter and was a legendary figure in the New York literary scene. She worked as a critic for "Vanity Fair" and had many sketches and short stories published in the "New Yorker". Parker was also a key member of the Algonquin Round Table, a group of New York literary types, where she often displayed her infamous cruel humor and instant wit.

Hedy Lamarr (November 9, 1913 – January 19, 2000) was an Austrian-born American actress. Though known primarily for her great beauty and her successful film career, she also co-invented an early form of spread spectrum, a key to modern wireless communication - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedy_Lamarr

The Jazz Age had college students kicking up their heels to the Charleston and believing the world was theirs for a song. Hoagy Carmichael was a law student at Indiana U when his friend Bix asked him: “Why don’t you try writing some music?” Jazz music exerted its irresistible pull on Hoagy Carmichael’s life, and he started to write out the tunes that wouldn’t stop buzzing around in his head. Cornetist Bix Beiderbecke recorded Carmichael’s “Riverboat Shuffle” and the popular bandleader Paul Whiteman championed his work. By 1930 Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington were having hit records with Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on my Mind,” “Lazy River” and “Rockin’ Chair.” And Carmichael wrote dozens of American songbook favorites—“Skylark,” “Star Dust,” “How Little We Know,” and his Oscar-winning “In The Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening.” - http://www.riverwalkjazz.org/site/PageServer?pagename=jazznotes_skylark
