The Jesus Experience

The Jesus Experience...Christianity Around the World

This is the human experience of Jesus...the Messiah, the Son of God. Each culture of the world has created its own expression of Christianity. Those expressions sprang from ancient Israel, the Roman Empire, the Mediterranean, as well as Russia, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Volume 1 - Jesus in the Roman Empire...In Palestine, a faith is born filling the hearts, minds and souls of humankind. Apostles Peter and Paul led believers to become martyrs, monks, philosophers and finally emperors.
Volume 2 - Jesus in Early Europe...Despite the darkness of the Middle Ages, the growth and success of the Church can be attributed to individual men and women, like Francis of Assisi and Hildegard of Bingen, who experienced Christ in their own ways.
Volume 3 - Jesus in Modern Europe... By the 1500''s, Western Europe was a frenzy of energy, invention, commerce and faith. A new human experience of faith is founded by the words of Luther and the actions of Calvin and Protestantism is born.
Volume 4 - Jesus Among the Slavs... When the Prince of Kiev embraced Eastern Christianity, he tied together the beliefs of the Orthodox faith and the country of Russia in a union that continues today. Both the people and their Savior experienced a common suffering that bound them.
Volume 5 - Jesus in Latin America... When the Spanish and Portuguese came to Latin America, indigenous societies were annihilated and societies were crushed. In spite of the cruelty, natives embraced the Christian beliefs of their captors.
Volume 6 - Jesus in North America... America is a direct reflection of Protestant culture, a social experiment that continues today. This "promised land" absorbed an influx of Catholic believers and now faces a significant new migration... the Muslims.
Volume 7 - Jesus in Asia... Asia has the lowest percentage of Christians in the world, yet it is home to the world''s largest church. Nowhere has the Christian message been so persecuted and so welcomed.
Volume 8 - Jesus in Africa... Christianity came in the 19th century with legions of missionaries who had limited success at converting souls. Black leaders such as Desmond Tutu and Simon Kimbangu fused the universal message of Jesus with the traditions of African culture, making it the fastest growing region of Christianity in the world.

Michael Moore''s Roder & Me

Ex-journalist Michael Moore''s blistering, satirical documentary about the closing of the General Motors plants in Flint, Michigan in the mid-1980s. This move, which eliminated 33,000 jobs and left the one-industry town destitute, was a particularly bitter tragedy, considering that Flint was the town that gave birth to General Motors during post-war boom era of the 1950s. The film revolves around Moore''s dogged attempts to gain an interview with Roger Smith, the elusive and well-insulated head of GM and the man responsible for the layoffs. While tracking the eponymous Roger, Moore takes time out to record the devastation of Flint and the desperate, often unintentionally hilarious attempts of the citizens and the city fathers to deal with the catastrophe.

"...A savagely witty documentary....Moore proves himself a gifted satirist...[He] gives complex issues a startling clarity..."

"...America has an irrepressible new humorist in the tradition of Mark Twain and Artemus Ward....In social criticism, anything goes, as it goes triumphantly in ROGER AND ME..."

Included in the New York Times "10 Best Films of 1989" List

"...ROGER & ME is a terrific movie..." - http://movies-by-actor.com/michael_moore/michael_moore_-_roger_&_me.htm

Roger and Me is about a town that fell apart because a whole bunch of factories close. As a result, most of the town becomes un-employed. The whole movie is about a guy (Michael Moore) who is trying to get Roger Smith, the man responsible for closing the factories, to come and spend a day with some of the people who worked at the factory. I won''t tell you what happens in the end just in case you want to see this dumb movie though I''m not sure why you would want to.
