We usually think of a thin lens as a thin, circular piece of clear material such as glass or plastic. The lens is usually in air. Light travels from one side of the lens, through the lens where it is refracted at the first and second interfaces between the air and the material making up the lens, and back out into the air on the other side of the lens. Light can therefore be on either side of the lens.
November 13 sees the opening of On the Other Side of the Lens, an exhibition based on a new limited edition book which promises to be a top choice Christmas pressie. The book features digital photos taken by 80 celebrities who attempt to capture symbols of hope in their own lives. Representatives from the fashion world include Vivienne Westwood, Patrick Cox, Julien Macdonald and Kate Moss. There are also contributions by Ray Winstone, Nicole Kidman, Eric Cantona, Marianne Faithfull, Michael Stipe, Moby, Natalie Imbruglia and Ronnie Wood. The exhibition (at Tram Studios, 104-106 Arlington Road, NW1) will feature photos from the paperback book supported by Canon (with all profits going to the Red Cross). Each photo is accompanied by a personal explanation by the celebrity. The exhibition will tour Berlin, Paris, and Stockholm later this year.
Canon Europe has joined forces with the Red Cross and more than 80 celebrities from the worlds of fashion, sport, music, film, arts and literature to produce a stunning collection of inspirational photography entitled On the Other Side of the Lens.
The celebrity images capture and share what inspires these famous figures and provide a rare insight into their personal lives. The collection itself celebrates the growing momentum of the global digital art revolution, which is empowering people of all ages, from all walks of life to express their creativity through digital technology.
Kate Moss, Jodie Kidd, Phoebe Philo and Vivienne Westwood have joined a host of celebrity and fashion names in opening their private photo albums for a new exhibition. On The Other Side Of The Lens, which opens at London''s Tram Studios in Camden today, will feature Moss'' own shots of her friends and family, including Jefferson Hack and Primal Scream lead singer Bobby Gillespie, partying at Glastonbury this year, as well as a catalogue of shots from Kidd''s travels around India, and contributions from the likes of Angelina Jolie, Rankin, Tommy Hilfiger, Nicole Kidman, Jimmy Choo and Sofia Coppola. Curated by Cannon, the exhibition will tour Europe before being auctioned at Christies next year, in aid of The Red Cross.
