Sparks-The band. Upon seeing the movie, most folks thought that it was
a fake band just assembled for the shoot. Not so, as Sparks had been an
L.A. group for a good part of the ''70''s and today continues to pump out
hits. The songs featured in the film are "Big Boy" and "Fill ''Er Up"
which were featured as a single and "B" side. The band, formed around
brothers Russell and Ron Mael, are probably best known for songs like
"Angst In My Pants", "Cool Places" (with Jane Wiedlin) and "Music That
You Can Dance To" - http://www.coasterville.com/rcrev.htm

Although many don’t notice it, there is a blacklist in Hollywood. For years, television stars were essentially restricted to practicing the craft they love only on the small screen. Television stars were television stars, film st ars were film stars, and film stars were the higher life form. The line separating them was not successfully crossed (in an upward direction, that is).

No one should be [a major multimedia star] in the 90’s, for film and television have become only a distantly related media. TV appeals to the broad middle-aged, movies to the young and younger. The living room is the woman’s domain, the Cineplex a guy’ s clubhouse. TV bathes in social reassurance, movies strut toward sociopathic threat. Not many performers commute between the two with much profit and comfort. (Corliss 97)

Whether you agree with the rationale or not, it is undeniable that crossing the very clear line from television to film in not easy. But, in the past few years, that line has been in the process of being erased, largely due to one single great actr ess: Helen Hunt.

Never mind its obscurity , fans of 80s glossy childish trash will love this as well as young teenagers who may find it a little dated.Altenatively known as BAD MANNERS in Australia Karen Black stars and is in full nerosis here and has never been better. Rumour has it this canadian made curiousity was first put forward by Disney who later backed out of the project. Younger Fans of REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS should eat this up with Martin Mull, that blonde girl with the annoying voice in Twin Peaks, Russ Meyers ex wife and a cast of unknowns who fit with the zany acting style this movie requires. Has a snippet of SHOGUN ASSASSIN and band SPARKS supply the excellent soundtrack. If anyone knows if a LP or CD exists please contact me!!! I thought it was goofy and great!

Where the Boys Are ''84 (1984)Genre(s): Sex & Sexuality, Teen Angst, VacationsReview: Horrible remake of the 1960 comedy still features girls searching for boys during spring break in Fort Lauderdale. Telling about its era: charm gives way to prurience.

Black Rain (1989)Genre: Action, Crime, Drama, Police, Gangsters, Suspense, Culture Clash, Murder, Detectives, Prison, Escape, Martial Arts

Plot: Director Ridley Scott''s international crime thriller stars Michael Douglas as Mike Conklin, a New York detective under investigation for corruption. When yakuza hit man Sato (Yusaku Matsuda) kills two American mobsters in New York, he''s extradited to Osaka to face trial, with Conklin and Charlie Vincent (Andy Garcia) as his escorts. Mistakenly turning over their prisoner to yakuza disguised as police, Conklin and Vincent realize, after running down some blind alleys, that they have no chance of finding Sato in the unfamiliar city and enlist the services of Japanese desk cop Masahiro "Mas" Masumoto (Ken Takakura). While relaxing with Mas at a karaoke bar, the cops also get information on the world of the yakuza from Joyce Kinglsey (Kate Capshaw), a high-class bargirl. As they continue the search for Sato, the scrupulous, methodical, and civilized style of Japanese police work rubs the improvisational, rule-breaking Americans the wrong way. But when Vincent is murdered, Mas and Conklin realize that success will come only through a blending of investigative and cultural styles. The almost impenetrably sooty, neon-saturated city of Osaka is superbly photographed by future director Jan de Bont.
